Coding Club :: Grades 3 - 7

Coding Club is for students that are curious, problem solvers, responsible, and team players. This club will introduce you to the basics of coding, computer programming, and video game development.


 

Chess Club :: Grades 3 - 5

Meets Tuesdays, 4:00pm-4:50pm.

 

The district chess program provides students the opportunity to showcase their problem-solving and critical thinking skills at chess tournaments and UIL Chess Puzzle competitions. *minimum 4 competitions throughout the year.

Debate Club :: Grades 4 - 7

Elementary (4th & 5th);

Middle school (5th, 6th, 7th).

 

Calling all future lawyers, advocates, organizers, and anyone else with a powerful voice! Join one of the first elementary Debate clubs in Dallas, and learn how to argue like RBG and Sonia Sotomayor. Club commitments include up to four Saturday tournaments and two Saturday workshops.


 

Destination Imagination :: Grades 3-4

Meets Tuesdays, 4:00pm-4:50pm.

 

The Destination Imagination ("DI") program is a fun, hands-on system of learning that fosters scholars’ creativity, courage and curiosity through open-ended academic challenges in the fields of STEAM and service learning.The number of teams will be determined based on number of coaches. There are two competitions in the Spring.

Garden Club :: Grades [TBA]

Using Solar Prep's garden, Garden Club will promote the love of gardening, enrich the lives of students, and increase awareness of ecology, botany, outdoor recreation and conservation.


 

Girls on the Run :: Grades 3 - 7

Meets Tuesdays AND Thursdays, 4:00pm-5:30pm.

Elementary (3rd, 4th, 5th);

Middle school (6th, 7th).

 

GOTR is a transformational physical activity based positive youth development program for girls.  The program culminates with the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K running event.  The goal of the program is to unleash confidence through accomplishment while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness.

Green Team Recycling :: Grades 4 - 7

Meets Tuesdays, 4:00pm-4:50pm.

 

The Green Team's mission is to help our Earth by practicing sustainable actions, whether that's picking up recycling from each classroom, helping compost in our school garden, or creating reusable goods to use at home or at school!


 

Journalism Club :: Grades 5-7

Meets Thursdays, 4:00pm-4:50pm.

 

The Journalism Club empowers Solar girls to use a variety of media to explore the world around them and understand different cultures, ideas and events.  We'll learn about women in journalism, careers and opportunities, the history of journalism and more.


 

CSSD Kenpo Karate :: Grades PreK - 7

Meets Wednesdays:

4:00pm-4:30pm (PreK & Kinder).

4:30pm-5:30pm (1st - 7th).

 

Chamberlain Studios of Self-Defense is a DISD-approved vendor. The CSSD fee-based, after-school program meets in the Fall and Spring Semesters, starting September 1st and January 12th, respectively. Kids Karate is a great recreational activity; it provides good exercise and self-discipline, builds confidence, and establishes achievable goals. Our Kids Karate classes incorporate the "3-Steps to a Great Kid"™ program, which is a character development curriculum specifically designed to fit within a martial arts program.

Little Kids Rock :: Grades 5 - 7

Meets Tuesdays AND Thursdays, 4:00pm-4:50pm.

 

Little Kids Rock is a national nonprofit that is dedicated to building a world where kids can live rich, purposeful lives by ensuring that all public school children have the opportunity to unlock their inner music makers. All interested scholars must commit to after school practice every Tuesday and Thursday, at least 30 minutes of daily practice at home, and participate in the All-City Jam on a Saturday in May.

Tennis Club :: Grades 5 - 7

Meets Tuesdays AND Thursdays, 4:00pm-5:50pm.

 

Tennis Club will be an introduction to Tennis.  Scholars will learn the basic fundamentals in a fun and competitive environment.


 

TMSCA :: Grades 3 - 5

Meets Tuesdays, 4:00pm-4:50pm.

 

UIL math and science contests through grade level team competitions in the areas of Number Sense, Calculator Applications, Mathematics, and Science. Minimum of 4 competitions must be attended.

UIL Competition :: Grades 3 - 5

Meets Tuesdays, 4:00pm-4:50pm.

 

Students are challenged to exhibit much more than knowledge and comprehension in the areas of:

Reading/Writing; Number Sense; Spelling; Storytelling; Maps, Graphs, & Charts; Dictionary; and Listening. There is one  competition in December and one in May.
